Suspected bandit shot by police during armed robbery

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A suspected bandit who gave his name as Gully Ross is nursing gunshot wounds to his legs after he was shot by the police during an alleged robbery on Tuesday, March 17.

According to a police report, the suspect is under police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital. The Police Force noted that at approximately 01:30 hrs, vendor Walter Drakes, 46 years, of Smyth Street, Georgetown, was riding a bicycle along Croal Street when he was held up by a man armed with two cutlasses.

The perpetrator took away a bag containing confectionery and escaped. Quick response by the police on receipt of the report, led to the arrest of the suspect at Hadfield Street and the recovery of the stolen articles.

According to the police report, during efforts to arrest him, the suspect attacked the police with the cutlasses and was shot to his legs.
