[www.inewsguyana.com]Calvin Francis of Princess Street, Lodge Georgetown, charged with simple larceny was refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Monday, February 17.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which stated that on Monday, February 10 at Princess Street, he stole one pig valued $65,000, property of Jean Bacchus.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that on the day in question around 13:30hrs, the virtual complainant fed the animal, but when she returned around 16:20hrs to check on it, she discovered that it was missing. Bacchus reported the matter to the Police and an investigation was carried out which revealed that persons saw the defendant in the pig pen.

However, the accused denied the allegation. He explained that he saw the animal lying on the road which was struck down by a truck, after which he picked up the animal and sold it at Bourda market.

The accused was convicted of similar charge in the past. Bail was refused and he was remanded to prison until March 3.
