Police Trainee pleads guilty to theft

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – year – old Tyrone Cort, a trainee Police officer of the Felix Austin Police College was placed on $50,000 bail pending a probation report and sentencing.

Before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, the defendant of Manchester Village, Corentyne Berbice, pleaded guilty to the offence, which stated that between August 3 and 4 at Adventure Corentyne Berbice, he stole from his colleague Jermaine Humphrey, one Samsung Galaxy cellular phone valued $53,000.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant, told the Court that Humphrey discovered his cellular phone was missing after waking up from a nap. He then reported the matter and investigations were conducted.

The prosecutor said the cellular phone was traced to a female, who was later contacted. She told the Police that the phone was given to her by the defendant.

The Court heard that during questioning, Cort admitted to stealing the phone. He was ordered to report to the Whim Police station every fort night commencing on August 15. He will return to Court on September 19 for probation report and sentencing.
