[www.inewsguyana.com] – Ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) stumbled on a massive arms cache on Saturday afternoon along the Lama Canal; adjacent to Sheriff Street/Mandela Avenue.

Police sources have confirmed that among the discoveries are 11 fragmentation grenades and four concussion grenades – a grand total of 15 explosives.

Also in the cache was a quantity of ammunition.

Reports indicate that the ammunition and grenades all appeared to be in good condition and a fire tender was summoned to the scene along with bomb experts, in the case of an emergency.

The discovery was made after an officer noticed a green box covered in mud in the canal. Further investigation led to the discovery of the arms cache.

Police investigations are continuing.
