Police shoot suspected bandit

[www.inewsguyana.com]A 20 – year – old man of Tucville, Georgetown is under guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was shot by the police.

Jamal Cromwell is nursing a gunshot wound on the finger of his left hand.

Police noted that at around 18:30hrs on Saturday November 23, a plain clothes police rank observed Cromwell walking behind a couple on Anira and Irving Streets, Queenstown.

The policeman, suspecting that a robbery was about to take place intervened and challenged Cromwell, who pulled out a firearm and opened fire on the policeman.

“The policeman returned fire but the suspect managed to escape on a motor cycle driven by a waiting accomplice,” Police noted.

Later, at about 20:30h, Cromwell went to the GPHC for treatment to a gunshot injury. The police were informed and he is under guard at the hospital.
