Police Officer charged with allowing prisoner to escape

handcuffs[www.inewsguyana.com] – Fifty – four – year old Noel Trotman of Lot 162 Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on October 27, accused of allowing a prisoner to escape from Police custody, while he was left under his guard.

It is alleged that the accused, who is attached to the Mahdia Police Station, on September 17, 2015 allowed prisoner, David Peters to escape due to his negligence or carelessness.

Peters was in custody for the illegal possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. The Police Officer pleaded not guilty to the offense.

According to his Lawyer, Trotman is married and has five children; he has been a member of the Guyana Police Force for almost 36 years.

In his bail application, the Lawyer said that Trotman has no previous or pending matters and plans to clear his name, pointing out that his client was not the only rank at the Police Station at the time of the escape.

Bail was granted in the sum of $40,000 and Trotman is scheduled to make his next court appearance on January 19, 2016.
