Police destroy ‘ganja’ fields in Mazaruni, Onderneeming – three persons also busted with ‘ganja’ at Fort Wellington roadblock

Ranks from the Guyana Police Force, on Sunday, conducted a drug eradication operation at 14 Miles, Upper Mazaruni, during which field (half-acre size) with marijuana plants under cultivation was found.
Police, in a statement, said the field comprised approximately 375 plants at an average height of one (1) metre. A camp with 1 kilogram 521 grams of dried marijuana was also found. Police said they destroyed both the field and the camp.
A man has been arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
And in a similar exercise the previous day (Saturday), Police ranks conducted a drug eradication operation in the Onderneeming Backdam on the Essequibo Coast, during which a two-acre size field with cannabis sativa (marijuana/ganja) plants under cultivation was found and destroyed.
According to the Police, the field comprised approximately 4,200 ‘ganja’ plants at an average height of 30cms. An abandoned camp with 100 kilograms of dried marijuana was also found.
Police said the field and the camp were destroyed. No arrest was made.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident around 15:00 hrs yesterday, Police ranks at a roadblock at Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice, searched a motor vehicle in which 5 kilograms 390 grams of marijuana were found.
Three men who were in the vehicle have been arrested and are in custody assisting with the investigations.
