Mother of 2 denies cocaine charge

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Nancy Augustus was remanded to prison on Monday, March 09 by Magistrate Judy Latchman on drug trafficking charge.

Augustus of Lot 40 Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on March 06, at Cross Street, Georgetown, she had in her possession 2 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor Renetta Bentham told the Court that Augustus was confronted by police and when she saw the ranks, she threw the substance on the ground.

Upon inspection, the police discovered the substance to be cocaine. Augustus was taken to the Brickdam Police Station, where it was weighed in her presence.

Her Lawyer, Adrian Thompson told the Court that the drug was not found in his client’s possession. The mother of two was remanded to prison after the Prosecutor opposed bail based on the nature of the offence, seriousness and the penalty attached.

The matter will call again on March 12.
