‘Mash day’ thief sentenced to 9 months imprisonment

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty seven – year – old Quincy Letlow of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown was fined $50,000 and will spend 9 months in prison for theft.

He appeared before Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (February 25).

He pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on Sunday, February 23 at Vlissingen Road,  he stole from Verona Melville two silver chains valued $35,000 each.

Police Prosecutor Jomo Nichols told the Court that on the day in question around 20:00hrs the virtual complainant was standing on the road when the defendant relieved him of the articles. He added that Letlow is a repeat offender.

Following the Prosecutor’s explanation, the matter was stood down and recalled, when Letlow decided to accept the allegation.

The charges were re-read to the father of two pleaded guilty to the offence and apologized for his wrong doing.
