[www.inewsguyana.com]Christopher Gonsalves, 22 of Independence Boulevard, Georgetown, charged with robbery under arms was today granted $150,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on Wednesday, January 15 at Robb Street, Georgetown, being in company of another armed with an ice pick, he robbed Shawn Persaud of one Gold Chain valued $100,000.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that at around 14:30 hrs that day, the virtual complainant (VC) and his wife were walking along Robb Street, when the defendant pulled up on a motorbike with another person and stabbed the victim with an ice pick. He relieved him of the chain and escaped. The prosecutor objected to bail on the basis that Gonsalves is a known character to the police since he has been charged on several occasions.

Attorney- at – Law, James Bond represented the defendant and argued for bail, which was granted. The matter was adjourned until February 7.
