[] – Tony Marcus [no address given], charged with attempt to commit murder was refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

He was not required to plead to the indictable offence, which alleged that on July 6 at McDoom, East Bank Demerara, with intent to commit murder, he chopped Etwaroo Narine.

Police Prosecutor, Bharat Mangru told the Court that virtual complainant (VC) was drinking at a shop, when the accused asked him for money. An argument ensued and Marcus dealt the victim a chop to his shoulder and Narine ran away.

He added that the accused continued to run behind the victim and chopped him. The Prosecutor objected to bail based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and the fact that Narine is still hospitalized.

Bail was refused and the matter will call again on July 28 for report and fixtures.
