Lethem resident remanded for marijuana possession

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 55-year-old miner of Lethem was remanded to Prison on a narcotics charge by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Godfrey Jonas pleaded not guilty to the offence, which alleged that on July 14 at Arnapurna, Lethem; he had in his possession 775 grammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

According to Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, on the day in question acting on information, a party of Policemen went to the defendant’s home, where he was seen untying a bag from his pedal cycle.

Upon checking, a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems were found wrapped in a black and yellow plastic bag. He was told of the offence and arrested and charged.

The Police Prosecutor successfully opposed bail on the grounds that no special reason was given to the Court bail to be granted. The case was transferred to Lethem Court for September 1.
