Herstelling killer caught; claims he was promised $1.7M to murder man

[www.inewsguyana.com] – The man accused of committing the gruesome murder of Nathan Persaud at his Herstelling, East Bank Demerara home, has finally been arrested on Tuesday night, September 15, 2015.

Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum confirmed to iNews that 21 – year – old Oswald Junior Yaw of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown was arrested by ranks of the Major Crimes Unit, who staked out the location in the city for four days.

The man, who was taken to the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters last evening, reportedly confessed to the crime and detailed to the police how he was contracted to kill the Block Maker by the ex – wife, Beverly Persaud, who has since been charged and remanded to prison for the offense of murder.

iNews understands that the 21 – year – old told Detectives that he was promised $1.7 million to murder the man by the ex – wife. iNews was reliably informed that the woman allegedly told Yaw that she will sell her pool tables and pay him via installments on a monthly basis.

The suspect also confirmed that he was interested in securing the money to visit his girlfriend in Antigua to surprise her for her birthday.

The woman and her now dead husband were engaged in a bitter property dispute. The police were informed that the two were separated, which resulted in the husband relocating to Herstelling, where he lived with his sons; however the couple became engaged in a dispute over a property at the entrance of Diamond New Scheme, East Bank Demerara, which was engaging the attention of the court.

A reliable police source told iNews that on Saturday, September 12, 2015, the woman told investigators at the Criminal Investigation Department that she paid to have the man killed after he expressed confidence that he was going to win the court battle for the property she was living in and that he will ensure she is placed on the streets.

The woman was taken into custody a few hours after Persaud’s body was found in his living room with a stab wound to the chest, and his head bashed in with a hammer.

A postmortem examination revealed that the Block Maker sustained some 20 wounds to the head.
