Gunmen walk into police after invading businessman’s home

[www.inewsguyana.com] – One gunman was arrested and some booty recovered while his two accomplices managed to slip away from the police after beating and robbing a businessman at his Prospect, East Bank Demerara home early this morning, Monday, October 27.

iNews was informed that the men invaded the home of businessman Kalicharand Surupaul at approximately 03.00 hours and demanded cash, jewelry and a firearm.

During an interview with iNews, the businessman recalled that he was alerted to a noise coming from the lower flat of his home and when he ventured downstairs, he was confronted by three masked heavily armed gunmen.

They immediately pounced on him and proceeded to tie him up and beat him in his head with a hammer, as they demanded valuables and enquired of him if he was a licensed firearm holder.

According to the businessman, the gunmen were able to make off with millions in cash, jewelry, items and cheques.

Meanwhile, as the men were leaving the home, they encountered the police who were patrolling the area at the time. An exchange of gunfire erupted and one of the men was arrested while the other two fled. No one was injured but the police were able to recover a weapon from the nabbed bandit and three laptop computers. The investigation into the robbery continues.

The businessman lives at the East Bank address with his wife and three children.
