Four years jail to miner who admitted to armed robberies

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 22 – year – old miner was sentenced to four years in jail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for the offence of robbery under arms.

Rafael Huintzen changed his not guilty plea to guilty for the offence, which stated that on January 15 at Lot 2688 Manatee Place, South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown, being in the company of another, he held Rayburn Fraser at gun point and relieved him of a gold chain, a gold ring, $400,000 cash and a quantity of foreign currency, together valued $855,040.

The Court also heard that being in the company of another armed with a gun, he robbed Sindell Hector of $200,000 cash along with a cell phone to the value of $40,000.

According to the prosecution facts, the two victims were seated in a parked car when they were ambushed by Huintzen and another man. The armed bandits demanded cash and jewellery from them but they refused, which resulted in a scuffle.

During the altercation, Fraser was shot five times after which the gunmen escaped. The unrepresented man asked the Chief Magistrate to be lenient with her decision.

Huintzen is presently serving a five year sentence for another robbery under arms offence which was imposed by Magistrate Judy Latchman.
