[www.inewsguyana.com] – Thirty – eight – year old Asif Rahim, a Father of four died at his home today, Thursday November 27, five days after he was badly beaten allegedly at the hands of police officers attached to the Leonora Police Station, West Coast Demerara.

His wife, Lily Rahim, told iNews that her husband was arrested by the Police on Sunday, November 23 after he behaved in a disorderly manner at his Lot 102 Ocean Gardens, Meten – Meer – Zorg, West Coast Demerara home.

According to Lily, when she visited her husband at the Police Station the following day, she found him in a battered state, with his face swollen. After inquiring from the police about her husband’s condition, they told her that he was beaten by other prisoners.

However, Lily said her husband told her he was beaten by the Police Officers. After her husband was complaining of pains, Lily said she received permission from “Officer Johnson” to take him to the hospital.

The woman explained that she took her husband to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was informed that his jaw was broken and he would need to undergo surgery.

She said the Hospital then referred him to the Dental Clinic, who then sent him back to the GPHC for admittance given his condition. According to Lily, her husband was admitted on Wednesday evening but called her this morning and begged her to have him discharged since he did not receive any treatment from the hospital authorities.

Lily took her husband home today, where he died at approximately 13:00hrs.

This is not the first time that the Leonora Police Station has been accused of brutalizing prisoners. In October 2009, they burned a 16 – year – old on his genital area.

  3. Lawless Guyana, the poor citizens have to suffer. It baffles me that a country with under a million people have so much crime and corruption. The PPP government is useless and so too is all the other political parties. People/citizens need to know their worth, the politicians depend on you, they need your votes to rule, it time you take the reins citizens of Guyana. The police does not have the right to molest, assault or kill any prisoner, they are not the law, they work for the law. But since they are the bloody murders they should face justice. Wake up Guyana, gather strength, help one another.

  4. one day my people, one day we will take justice in our hands and i’m so sure the station will be empty of people scared to become police. i’ve lived and seen enough shit in this country!

  5. Lawyers need to work pro bono for poor people in guyana. The PPP is the cause of everything that is happening to poor people of Guyana.

  6. Many guyanese are not aware of actions(seeking justice through law courts) they can take against members of guyana police force, let the courts hold them responsible for their actions,go to human rights, get a lawyer to represent you first, just dont know who train these guys,
