[www.inewsguyana.com] – A farmer of Central Rupununi facing a drug trafficking charge was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Monday, May 12.

Clement James pleaded not guilty to the offence, which alleged that on Sunday, May 11 at Yellow Shop, Karasbai, Central Rupununi, he had in his possession 42 grammes of marijuana.

According to Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, at approximately 02:40h, Police on patrol observed the defendant acting in a suspicious manner. A search was carried out on his person and the illegal substance was found in his left side pants pocket.

The Prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant did not provide the Court with any special reason for bail to be granted.

The unrepresented man was remanded to prison and the matter was put transferred to Lethem Court for June 2.
