Enmore Taxi Driver on bail following fraud charge

 

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 32 – year – old taxi driver of Enmore Public Road, East Coast Demerara, charged with fraudulent conversion was placed $150,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Seenarine-Beharry.

Shimell Thomas pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that between February 1 and March 28, 2013 at Georgetown, being solely entrusted with $1,007,000M by Jennifer Sertima to pay a lawyer, he fraudulently converted the money to his own use and benefits. 

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant did not relate any facts to the Court.

However, Thomas’ Attorney –at – Law, Paul Fung – A – Fat alleged that the Virtual Complainant gave his client the money to bribe someone at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

 He requested that his client be admitted to bail in a reasonable sum and the case was postponed to May 9.
