Duo charged with $6.8M robbery of Businessman

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Two men charged with a $6.8M robbery was today remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Twenty – seven – year – old Mark Anthony of Melanie Damishana, and 26 – year – old Jamice Watson of Strathspey, both of East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

It is alleged that on October 29 at Middle Mazaruni River, being armed with a gun, they robbed Manael Be Araujo of cash $4.8 M and two ounces of raw gold together valued $6.8 M, property of Anderson Batista.

Both men were represented by Attorney – at – Law, Peter Hugh, who in his bail application told the Court that his clients were not at the location on the day in question.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant, told the Court that the virtual complainant (VC) is a businessman and the two defendants are known to him. He explained that on the day in question at around 12:30 hrs, the VC was conducting business at his business place when both men entered as costumers and attempted to sell raw gold.

The Court heard that the duo dealt the VC several blows about his body with a gun before robbing him. Bail was denied and the matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for November 13.

    How long will it take these two to work to smell their sweat for that amount?
