Duo charged over stolen Caterpillar engine parts

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Two men on Tuesday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer charges relating to the theft of a 6 Cylinder Caterpillar Engine.

Thirty-one-year-old Mechanic, Derwin Freeman of Blueberry Hill Wismar, Linden, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that between February 01 and 22 at Arangoy Backdam, Cuyuni River he stole one 6 cylinder Caterpillar engine to the value of $3.5 M, property of Ricardo Seelall.

Meanwhile, Henry DaSilva also denied that he received a 6 Cylinder Caterpillar Engine to the value of $3.5 M from Freeman, while being aware that the articles were stolen.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the Court that the complainant has received $1M compensation from DaSilva and would like to drop the charges against him.

However, the charges against Freeman were not dismissed. His Lawyer, Dexter Todd requested bail, stating that his client does not have a criminal record.

The father of six children was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 and ordered to report to the F Division Headquarters every fortnight commencing on March 20. The matter was transferred to Bartica Magistrate’s Court for March 27.
