[www.inewsguyana.com] – The body of 18 – year – old Shawn Denzil Atkinson, a Timehri resident working with the Barama Company was recovered late Friday evening, hours after he vanished when he plunged into a canal, looking for a cricket ball.
Persons who were part of a fun day which was being held in the area told iNews that they heard the teen inquiring about the depth of the canal and without waiting for a response, took the plunge.
One young man who plunged after Shawn to save him told iNews that he aborted the rescue attempt after Shawn panicked, causing both of them to go down. However, Shawn never resurfaced.
An excavator was used to assist in locating the teen, while personnel from the Coast Guard arrived shortly after. The search continues.
