Dredge Operator admits to stealing $1.4M in Gold, Diamond; sentenced to 3 years jail

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Forty – Seven – year – old Dredge Operator, Franklin Peters of Station Street Kitty, Georgetown, was today sentenced to three years imprisonment on a fraudulent convergent charge.

Peters pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ann McLennan. The Court heard that between September 1 and 30, 2013 at Cucamgran Backdam, Potaro River, being solely entrusted with three ounces of gold and 17 carat Diamond, together valued $1.4M, by Hazel Patterson, to deliver to Clive Obermulley, he fraudulently converted to his own use.

Prosecutor, Dinero Jones informed the Court that Peters works with the virtual complainant (VC) in the interior. He said on the day in question, Peters was entrusted by Patterson to deliver the articles to Obermulley since he heading to Georgetown.

Peters was apprehended on August 12 at the Stabroek Market after he was seen by the complainant, who informed police in the area.
