Joint services conduct massive search at Camp Street Jail

[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Police Force, Guyana Defense Force, Guyana Prison Service conducted a massive search at the Camp Street Prison in Georgetown on Saturday, February 14.

iNews was reliably informed that much focus has been placed on the operation which is usually conducted by members of the Guyana Police Force and the Prison Service.

Some of the illegal items discovered included ice pickers, small amounts of drugs and other items which banned in the prison. In 2002, Guyana experienced a jail break in the month of February where five high profile criminals escaped from the facility.

During the escape, one prisoner officer was killed and another injured. The jail break resulted in Guyana experiencing one of the worst periods of crime wave. The escapees were eventually killed during confrontations with the police. [Leroy Smith]
