Deed’s Registry employee accused of $4M fraud

[www.inewsguyana.com]An employee of the High Court Deed’s Registry was today granted $200,000 bail after she was charged with a fraud offence.

Fifty – Six – year old Bibi Sattaur of Station Street, Kitty, Georgetown appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded not guilty to the offense.

It is alleged that on March 28, 2013 at Georgetown, she obtained the sum of $4M cash, by falsely pretending to transfer a plot of land to Bibi Akleema Goberdhan, knowing same to be false.

Police Prosecutor, Michal Grant told the Court that the accused pretended that she was in a position to sell the plot of land to Goberdhan. The virtual complainant later found out that she cannot claim the land, since it was already sold to someone else and made a report to the Police, after which Sattaur was charged.

Attorney – at – Law, Leslie Sobers represented Sattaur and said that his client strongly denied that she made any agreement made with the VC. He said Sattaur is shocked and amazed at the allegation laid before her.
