[www.inewsguyana.com] – A businessman was remanded to prison on Monday, February 09 for the possession of firearm and ammunition by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Ronaldo Singh pleaded not guilty to the charges, which alleged that on February 06, at Goedverwagting, East Coast Demerara, he was found with a .45 pistol when he does not possess a firearm license.

He also denied that he had seven live matching rounds of ammunition. The Court heard that the police conducted a search at Singh’s house, when they found the gun and ammo in his living room.

He was reportedly the only person at home at the time. It is also alleged that he told the police he bought the gun from a policeman some two years ago.

His lawyer, Sandil Kissoon refuted the police facts. Instead, he told the Court that his client was not present when the police searched the house and that the police found the firearm in the waiting area of the defendant’s business place, which is accessible to the public.

The businessman was remanded and will return to court on February 11.
