[www.inewsguyana.com] – A route 42 Georgetown/Timerhi minibus plunged overboard with some thirteen persons, inclusive of two babies at Meadow Bank, East Bank Demerara while the driver was navigating the ‘Banks turn’.
While the accident which occurred at about 16:30hrs on Sunday, April 13 was not fatal, some passengers along with two babies were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital to seek medical care for minor injuries.
The driver is reported to have fled the scene and was identified only as Collis. The owner of the bus claims that only yesterday he gave the bus to the man to work.
On passenger told iNews (www.inewsguyana.com) that the driver was speeding and speculated that he may have also been imbibing.
She said she had cautioned him but he ignored her warning. The woman added that after the accident, the driver verbally abused her.
“The man cursed me and tell me I like talk, imagine that,” the woman said, adding that “if you see what he was doing on the road” as she gesticulated.
When iNews (www.inewsguyana.com) arrived on scene a large crowd had gathered and police were making arrangements to have the vehicle removed.
Some passengers who were at the scene claimed they lost hand bags, jewelry, footwear and other valuables.
Police have gone in search of the driver who according to a few is known for speeding.
