Burma crash victims drowned – PME reveals

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Post Mortem Examination (PME) performed on the remains of 41 – year – old school teacher Shondel Duke and her six students revealed that they drowned.

The Regional Department of Region 5 on Tuesday, February 24 provided transportation for the relatives of the deceased to travel to Georgetown so as to identify the bodies prior to the PME. 

Meanwhile, government has committed to bearing the cost for the funerals of the seven persons.Duke and the six students from the Augsburg Primary School died when the car they were traveling in veered off the road and into a deep canal at the Burma Branch Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara on February 20.

Dead: Martina Persaud.

At the time of the accident, they were returning from Mashramani celebrations; Duke was the driver.

The children who lost their lives in the incident are Martina Persaud, 7 years; Asia Abel, 10 years; Azikia Fraser, 6 years; Adeshe Woolford, 9 years; Justin Abel, 8 years; and Rayden Abel, 7 years, all of Mahaicony. [Leroy Smith]
