[www.inewsguyana.com]Two brothers appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, charged with the unlawful killing of their cousin.

Phillip Sutheran and Franklin Sutheran were not required to plea to the charge, which alleged that on January 10 at Quamatta Village, North Rupununi, they murdered 23 – year – old Martin Roberts.

Police Prosecutor, Bharat Mangru told the Court that on the day in question, the cousins and the deceased went to the village farm and upon returning, they were consuming yeast tonic (an Amerindian alcoholic beverage) when an argument erupted between Phillip and three other men.

The accused Franklin saw the conflict between his brother and others; he visited the scene and intervened. The deceased, who was also involved in the scuffle, was thrown to the ground and the two accused dealt him several kicks and cuffs to his head.

Persons later observed the body lying motionless and reported the matter. Investigations were carried and the brothers were charged. The men were remanded and the matter was transferred to Lethem Magistrate’s Court for March 3.
