A homeless man, who appeared to be in his late 40s was moments ago killed in a hit and run accident on Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown.

The accident occurred about 9:50PM, a short distance from the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

An eyewitness told reporters that the man was walking East along Homestretch, when the yellow Toyota wagon, which was travelling in the same direction, hit the man from behind.

He was tossed several feet in the air, before landing on the road. The driver fled the scene.

The eyewitness said she was driving in the opposition direction and saw the car heading towards the man. According to the woman, she swerved off the road, hoping that the speeding car will not hit the man.

The elderly man died on the spot. Police have since launched a search for the vehicle.

Other drivers who gathered at the scene are calling for street lights to be placed along Homestretch Avenue, as the area is very dark at nights.
