[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 28-year-old Gardener of Lot 150 Guyhoc Park, Georgetown was yesterday (Thursday June 26), remanded to prison on a drug trafficking charge.

Ricardo Bailey pleaded not guilty to the offence which alleged that on June 24 at Wellington Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession 28 grammes of cannabis-sativa (marijuana) for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru said on the day in question, police were on patrol when the defendant was spotted fighting with another male.

Both men were arrested by the Police.  The defendant reportedly removed a transparent plastic bag from his pants pocket and threw it to the ground.
He was represented by Attorney-at-Law Paul Fung-a-fat. He requested bail in a reasonable sum after telling the Court that the alleged substance was found 50 yards away from his Client.

The Prosecutor successfully objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant was seen throwing the prohibited substance to the ground.
Bail was refused and the matter was transferred before Magistrate Judy Latchman for report and fixtures.

The trial commenced today and one Police witness testified in the matter thus far. Bail was again refused and the matter was adjourned to July 1
