crime[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Meadowbank man has been placed on $250,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after he was charged with a $17 Million theft on Friday, December 04.

Fayad Hamid of Lot 5 Meadowbank, East Bank Demerara denied the allegations which read that between July 2 and July 4, 2015, at Relief, East Bank Demerara (EBD), he broke and entered the dwelling house of James Samuels and stole several guns and live ammunition, a quantity of gold and diamonds, two metal safes, a flat screen television, several bottles of foreign liquor and US$40,000, amounting to a total of $17, 280,000.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones stated that Hamid is the alleged mastermind of the heist and some of the firearms were found in his possession. Jones further objected to bail citing the gravity and prevalence of the crime.

His Attorney stated that police arrested his client while he was making an appearance for another court matter and did not conduct any identification parade to link Hamid to the crime.

Hamid was released on bail and will make his next court appearance on January 4, 2016 at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
