Alleged cocaine traffickers charged, remanded to prison

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Two men, charged with trafficking cocaine were remanded to prison on Thursday (May 8) by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Ortiz Miller of Gilhuys Street, West Ruimveldt and Owen Browne of Sophia, Greater Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on May 7 at Georgetown, they had in their possession 11 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

According to the Prosecution, on the day in question ranks from Narcotics Branch were on patrol at Hadfield Street, when they saw Miller handing over a brown package to Browne.

The Police approached the defendants and told them of their suspicious and with their consent a search was carried out on their person. The Court heard that during the search, Browne threw the package to the ground.

The men were unrepresented. The case was transferred before Magistrate Judy Latchman for report on May 30.
