48 months jail for youth found with gun, ammo

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Eighteen – year – old Alex Mendonca of Vlissengen Road, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown was today sentenced to 48 months imprisonment on a firearm and ammunitions charges by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

Mendonca was found guilty on both charges and was fined $60,000 on each charge along with the custodial sentence.

Details of the first offence that on January 21 at West Ruimveldt, he had in his possession 26 rounds of .32 ammunition, when he was not a licensed holder.

The other charge stated on the same day at West Ruimveldt he also had a .32 Taurus semiautomatic pistol while not being the holder of a firearm license.

The items were found in the young man’s bedroom during a police. The case was prosecuted by Inspector Joel Ricknauth and a number of witnesses testified.
