3 years jail for man caught with marijuana

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Forty – seven – year old Festus Hohenkirt, who was accused of the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by City Magistrate, Judy Latchman after he was found guilty of the offense.

The court heard that Hohenkirt, a labourer of Worthmanville, Georgetown on August 5, 2015 at Diamond/Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara had in his possession 15 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

According to the Prosecution, on the day in question at about 10:40 hrs at Diamond, Hohenkirt was stopped and searched by the police after he was observed behaving in a suspicious manner.

The police found a black plastic bag, which contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. In addition to his three year sentence, Hohenkirt was also fined $30,000.
