[www.inewsguyana.com]Twenty – Two – year old Bibi Ameena Hamza of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, charged with larceny and embezzlement was today placed $250,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 and January 8, 2014 at Lethem, she stole the 6532 litres of diesel and 3932 litres of gasoline, together valued $2.7M.

She also denied the second charge which alleged that during the time being employed as a clerk at the service station, she embezzled the sum of $48,000 cash, taken into possession by her or in the name or account of her employer at Lethem.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that the defendant was employed with Alisha Laikram at Lams service at Lethem and during the time she embezzled the money and stole the fuel.

The prosecutor did not object to bail, since the defendant during investigations fully cooperated with police.

Attorney – at – Law Jerome Khan represented Hamza, said his client was lured to work at the gas station in Lethem since May 2013. He said during the time of the alleged incident, the defendant came down with dengue fever and received medical attention at the Lethem Hospital.

He added that at that time, the owner’s son whose name is “White Coats” was in charge of the business and was the only person that had access to the cash box.  After his client returned from the hospital she discovered that the cash was missing.

The lawyer said that his client suspected that White Coats took the said money and sent it to his mother-in-law in Boa Vista, Brazil, due to some family issues.

She was granted bail and ordered to report to the Police until March 3.
