[www.inewsguyana.com] – Raul Ollivierra of Lot 45 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was today sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for assaulting and threatening his reputed wife.
Before Georgetown Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond, the 43 – year- old labourer pleaded guilty to the charge, which alleged that on Sunday, January 20 at Lot 45 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he assaulted Lucy Fernandez, causing actual bodily harm.
He also pleaded guilty to the charge of threatening language towards the virtual complainant (VC).
Police Prosecutor, Jomo Nichols told the Court that the defendant returned home and asked Fernandez to have sexual intercourse with him. She refused and Ollivierra became annoyed and dealt the woman a slap to her face. An argument ensued and he threatened to chop the woman.
The prosecutor indicated that a medical was issued for the abrasion caused to the woman’s face.
Attorney – at – Law, Paul Fung – A -Fat represented the accused. He requested that a fine be imposed instead of a custodial sentence.
Ollivierra complained that his wife has been seeing another man. He said she burst his head and after he left for the interior to work, she burnt his medical certificate. The defendant explained that he has been working very hard and his wife has been spending his money unnecessarily.
