Unrepresented Miner remanded for armed robbery

court[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 19 – year – old Miner was today (Friday September 05), remanded to prison on a robbery under arm charge by Magistrate Judy Latchman.

Andrew Ridley of 48 Atlantic Ville, East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on January 9 at Independence Boulevard, Georgetown, being armed with a gun he robbed Wayne St. Jules of two finger rings, one wallet, one Motorola cellular phone and $20,000 cash together valued $191,000.

Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the Court that the victim was walking in Albouystown, when the defendant confronted him and placed a gun to his head and demanded articles mentioned in the charge after which he made good his escape.

The Prosecutor successfully opposed bail on the grounds of the nature and gravity of the charge and the fact that an alleged gun was used in the commissioning of the offence.

Bail was refused and the unrepresented man will return to Court on September 23 before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
