[www.inewsguyana.com] – Several persons were injured and one man died on Sunday, August 16 at the Port Mourant Turf Club during Guyana’s premier horse racing event.

The video, captured exclusively by Capitol News, shows spectators on the race track during the final race; invading the space of the race horses. One of the favourite horses in the race ‘Jack in my style’ was in third place, when one of the spectators ran in his path, resulting in the collision.

‘Jack in my style’ then lost control and ran into several other persons who were on the track. The man was left motionless on the track for several minutes before persons realized that he was dead.

Reports indicate that for most of the day, the police kept the capacity crowd off the track but when the feature event came, spectators could not be contained.

The organizers of the event reported that the police presence was doubled this year for the event.

  1. This is a land run by two legged horses so this does not surprise me one bit. Condolences to the relatives of the deceased. Hopefully, someone will mount a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the organisers of the event and the operators of the race track for extremely sloppy safety precautions.

  2. wow!….. what an uncivilized society we live in. This was just a matter of time, look where these spectators are. It is not enough to be at the side of the track…..lets go on the track
