[www.inewsguyana.com] – Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Robert Persaud believes that some quarry operators are under producing which is of concern to the government. He spoke of the need for quarry operators to step up to the plate and meet the growing demand for this product on the market.

The Minister made this observation yesterday (Monday, June, 23) during an inspection of the off-loading of materials by Durban Quarries Inc.

This is as a result of calls by the government for suppliers to build capacity and increase supply. As such, Durban Quarries Inc. has invested in a tug and barge to transport quarry to supply the demand in Georgetown.

Durban Quarry is a new medium scale operator, which made its first shipment from its location in region 7 to Georgetown yesterday. The company is now able to bring materials directly to the market for both private and public buyers.

The Minister said based on his observations, companies need to improve their logistics to boost capacity. iNews understands that Durban Quarries Inc intends to make more investments into the sector and expand its operations.Quarry

The Company is now able to supply stones to a wider segment of the market particularly Region 4 and not only to Parika as was previously done.

The stones will be available at the Company’s office at Le Resouvenir, East Coast Demerara.
