[www.inewsguyana.com] – Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo has described the government’s salary increase for Parliamentarians and Ministers as “reprehensible,” chiding the David Granger administration for displaying double standards.
Even though the Parliamentarians of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) have clearly stated that they will not accept the increase, it was still added to their cheques.
As such, Jagdeo made it clear that the increase will either be placed in the Treasury or donated to a Charity.
“The PPP Members of Parliament have received the increase and so we are discussing one of two options on how to proceed on this matter; either to return the money to the Treasury with a cheque or to hand it over every month to a charity but definitely the members on our side will not take the increase,” the Opposition Leader told a news conference on Friday, October 23.
He chided the government for implementing the salary increases even though it was them who said the economy was bankrupt upon assuming Office in May 2015.
