[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Ministry of Public Infrastructure recently rehabilitated a number of roads in the city and will soon be doing the same for roads in Linden and at Bartica.

In an interview with the Government Information Agency (GINA) Head of the Force Account Unit of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Lawrence Mentis, gave an update on what the Unit has been doing.

According to Mentis, the Force Account Unit has been mandated to maintain all public roads.

“We were given the instruction to maintain a majority of the roads, especially the main access roads, which a majority of traffic has been traversing on, recently we have done a thorough investigation on these roads, and the state they are in,” Mentis declared.

The most recently rehabilitated roads in the Georgetown area are; the Avenue of the Republic outside the Magistrates’ Court, Hadfield Street behind the Ministry of Health, Cemetery Road, Sections of Vlissingen Road, South Road from King Street to Vlissingen Road, Sections of Croal Street, Adelaide Street and sections of Princess Street.

Mentis added that while there is a backlog of roads to be rehabilitated, his Unit will be visiting Linden and Bartica shortly, to execute much needed rehabilitation works.

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s Force Account Unit benefitted from a budgetary allocation of $829M, which will be spent to execute rehabilitation on the following roads; Vlissingen Road, Water Street, Thomas Road, Mandela Avenue, Sea Wall Road, Railway Embankment, East Bank Demerara carriageway, East Coast of Demerara carriageway, Linden/Soesdyke Highway, and University of Guyana Road.
