[www.inewsguyana.com] – As the countdown towards the inaugural Guyana Festival gets closer, more corporate entities continue to come onboard to support the event. Digicel Guyana donated the sum of $2M to the Ministry of Tourism in support of the promising event.

The Guyana Festival – Sound, Soul and Taste, is slated for August 8 to 10 at the Guyana National Stadium, and is expected to offer a mixture of the country’s traditional music and dance, along with the exhibition of local food, art and craft.

The event is aimed at bringing optimum awareness to the country’s diverse cultural heritage along with advertising the country’s tourism products locally, regionally and internationally.

Minister of Tourism (ag) Irfaan Ali during his brief remarks welcomed the company on board while highlighting that the Ministry has always received tremendous support from the entity.

“This is exactly what we expect the festival to do, bringing our country together, our people together, celebrating together, dancing together, singing together, eating together, playing together, drumming together …”

Advertising and Sales Manager, of Digicel Guyana, Alexis Longhorn said that the company is very pleased to be on board with the Ministry as it is always looking at ways of giving back.

She added that this is the opportunity for Guyanese to come out and support their local talents and explore their culture.

The opening ceremony on Friday, August 8, will feature a fusion of Guyanese cultures comprising various dramatic performances highlighting dramatic groups, and craft, dance, poetry and painting.

On Saturday, August 9, there will be the spectacular Night of Legends Concert which will feature renowned local artistes who will be entertaining the gathering with classic oldies.

Another interesting aspect of this event is the Guyana Festival cricket match, which will see the Master’s Team come up against the President’s XI.
