[www.inewsguyan.com] – Beepats Company Limited, on Saturday evening commissioned a US$8.5M warehouse facility at Dennis Street, Sophia which will serve as the company’s main supply center.

The warehouse effectively replaces a facility that was destroyed by fire in October 2013, at Ogle East Coast Demerara (ECD).

According to company representative Kristofer Beepat, after the fire destroyed the Ogle facility, the company had resorted to the use of rented space which proved to be quite expensive.

“The last two years have seen us renting warehouse space at very expensive costs. It was with this in mind, and looking to the next fifty years, that it was decided to build this new warehouse,” he stated.

The building made primarily of steel rests on nearly two acres of prime land that was bought from one of Guyana’s oldest political parties.

According to the younger Beepat, the warehouse was constructed to allow for quick receiving and delivery of good to customers.

“We will be able to offload a forty foot container within half an hour at this new site as opposed to six plus hours at our Regent Street store,” he stated.

Acting President Moses Nagamootoo was on hand to for the commissioning ceremony and commended the company for its investment in Guyana and Guyanese.

According to Mr. Nagamootoo, Sophia is a “maiden spot” for business and has the potential to be developed.

“This area, Sophia – is a maiden spot for business and it has a reservoir of labour that you can tap into…I am glad that business people with money will come into this area…I am very happy that you have chosen to open this warehouse in this area,” said the Acting President.

The warehouse has 75,400 square feet of floor space, which makes it the biggest warehouse in Guyana. It is also equipped with modern storage requirements.
