[www.inewsguyana.com] – Residents of Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara(WCD) have taken matters into their own hands to reduce road fatalities and property damage by filling a major pot hole on the main road.

The self – help initiative was organized by Businessman, Mohamed Sheriff, who is also a resident of the community. The initiative was undertaken following the death of 20 – year – old Kevin Sackichan, who crashed after driving into the same pot hole on Friday night (November 21).

Sheriff told iNews that a number of other business operators came together and funded the work and were able to fill the pot hole this morning; however he complained about the many other dangerous pot holes in his area and along the roads in Region Three.

As such, the business community in the Zeeburg/De Willem is requesting government’s intervention to have the other pot holes filled, as they await the commencement of the road rehabilitation project.  Zeeburg Pot Hole

The business operators in that area invested over $50,000 to fill the pot hole. In this regard, Sheriff said it would be unfair and costly to have business operators dig further into their pockets.

  2. Ministry of public works lapsing get the work done or only when ministers of the government have use the road then it’s fixed in many cases

  3. These brothers have displayed a true spirit of patriotism and love for others. This is a wonderful display of how to use the resources GOD has blessed us with. Though sad that someone had to die to wake up that spirit, their efforts are praiseworthy. Maybe Mr. Benn will complement their efforts by attending to the other holes. Peace on earth and goodwill to all! Thank you Guyanese.
