West Indies clobber England in warm up Fixture

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A patient performance from Chris Gayle coupled with some bang on bowling from Krishmar Santokie led the West indies to a comfortable seven wicket win over England on Tuesday, March 18 in a warm up fixture of the ICC world T20.

Batting first, England was only able to muster 131/7 at Fatullah after winning the toss, Eoin Morgan top scoring with 43 not out.

Scores of 14 each from Micheal Lumb and Jos Buttler, 9 From Alex Hales, Moeen Ali’s 22, and Ravi Bopara’s 15 represented the total that stood before the West Indies.

Santokie bagged three wickets for 24 runs in his spell to spur a West Indies vice grip on the English while Sheldon Cottrell snared two wickets from the maximum number of overs.

With the bat, Dwayne Smith played the attacking role, crafting a spitfire 36 from 35 balls while his opening partner Gayle supported.

Johnson Charles added seven to the total before departing and Marlon Samuels a further 2.

Lendl Simmons and Gayle brought the game home, ending on 14 and 58 respectively.Darren Sammy

James Tredwell, Ravi Bopara and Stephan Parry were the bowlers capable of a breakthrough. According to Assistant Coach Andre Coley, the fixture shows the strength of the defending champions team which boasts firepower even on the bench.

The West Indies open their world T20 Campaign against India but will play Sri Lanka in a second warm up game tomorrow at 05:30.
