[www.inewsguyana.com] – Head Coach of Slingerz Football Club, Charles Pollard said he was not stunned by the outcome of his team’s match against Santos in the recently concluded Banks Beer, Georgetown Football Association Cup.
Speaking to the media after the win, the former Guyanese defender said that it was more difficult than normal but the result was expected.
He said that his players were briefed both mentally and physically for the challenge that lay ahead.
“No I was not surprised; it was more difficult than I thought but I think we must give Santos a lot of credit. I always tell my players it’s a finals, Santos haven’t bought their way to the finals, they play I think for the fans, it was good finals but I was confident we were going to win,” Pollard said.
He did not however down the opposition; he commended them for a high level of ball weaving capabilities and goal scoring chances.
He also thanked the crowd for their support, noting that football is nothing without its supporters. Slingerz held their nerves defeating a gamed Santos side 3-2.
Meanwhile, in the evenings other encounter BK Western Tigers earned themselves a consolation victory as they defeated the Guyana Defense Force 2-1 to claim third place in the tournament.
