US Embassy assist more than a thousand residents in Corriverton, Linden

HAP Donates Sports Equipment[www.inewsguyana.com] – The U.S. Embassy Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP) team participated in multiple outreach programs for underprivileged residents of Corriverton and Linden.

Donations consisted of footwear, books, food, clothing, blankets, and sports equipment. Items were donated by organizations such as Food for the Poor, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and United States non-governmental organizations including Reader to Reader Inc., Darien Book Aid Plan, and SHUZZ.

In Corriverton the HAP team, with the volunteer residents, civic groups, and municipal government officials, provided aid to 140 families in Villages 76, 77, and 78. Local residents expressed gratitude for the assistance and support offered by the U.S Embassy, NGOs, Civic Groups and Volunteers.

The HAP team also made sports equipment donations to the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association and to the Roadside Baptist Church Skills Training Centre. The equipment will benefit the congregation of 51 cricket clubs in the Upper Corentyne District and significantly increase youth access to better sporting supplies, and help sustain cricket programs in the Corriverton area.

In collaboration with USAID’s SKYE Program counselors, the HAP team conducted a humanitarian aid distribution in Linden, Region 10. The distribution was given to five Communities Development Council (CDC) leaders from Constabulary, Amelia’s Ward, Nottinghampshire, Old England and Blue Berry Hills. The HAP team distribution of several-hundred donation items reached of over 1,000 residents within these communities.

HAP is an initiative under the U.S. Embassy to assist Guyana’s communities, particularly in underserved regions, in the areas of social, economic and medical development. HAP works to bring together multiple local and international agencies to reach common goals.
