Update: Twenty-two sugar workers injured in Albion Estate accident

albion-estate-2012-3 [www.inewsguyana.com] – Agriculture Minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy says Fifty Nine (59) persons, including the driver, was in the truck which toppled this morning on its way to the cane fields at Albion, Berbice.

According to the Minister, the truck slid off a wet inclined dam, after it came off bridge.

Dr. Ramsammy said that of the 59 persons, 22 were taken initially to the Port Mourant hospital, before being transferred to the hospital at New Amsterdam.

Of the 22, nine were kept for observation, while the others were treated and sent away.  

There was no life threatening injuries, while X-Rays carried out confirmed that none of the workers suffered any broken bones.

Meanwhile, in his conversation with iNews earlier today, April 09, President Donald Ramotar expressed concerns for those injured, and indicated that he has been in contact with the Ministers of Health and Agriculture, despite being in Jamaica.

His instructions were for swift and efficient medical care and for contact to be made with the families of those injured.
