[www.inewsguyana.com] – Failure to pay staff compounded with non – payment to the Guyana Power & light Inc (GPL) has led to the shutting down of Tower Hotel in Georgetown.

Staff members were told yesterday (Friday May 22) to go home and return in six weeks, many of whom have not been paid for the month. The staff is calling on the Labour Ministry to intervene and ensure their rights are respected by the company.

Some of the employees have been working at the hotel for over 30 years and said it is the first time they have seen the company face financial difficulties to this magnitude.

It is reported that the current owners are in talks with potential buyers of the hotel after which they are hoping to settle the financial dispute among staff members.
