Suspected ‘Goat thief’ escapes from GPHC while under police guard

GPHC[www.inewsguyana.com] – A man who was shot in the buttocks during the alleged theft of goats, staged a daring escape from the Georgetown Public Hospital on Saturday, September 12 while under police guard.

iNews understands that the man of Buxton, East Coast Demerara escaped from the hospital’s Male Surgical Ward, which is located on the first floor of the new wing.

According to reports, he reportedly escaped through one of the windows and climbed down a pipe to the ground floor and made good his escape. At the time, he was not wearing a handcuff and the police rank was not aware he was missing until a staff from the hospital realised that the room was empty.

iNews understands that the police rank was outside the room on his phone when the prisoner escaped. The Police Force is yet to release his name, photograph or any information on the escape.

iNews has reported that it was a dramatic scene on September 09 when four alleged thieves tried to escape with two goats in a vehicle, leaving a policeman under close arrest and a man nursing a gunshot wound to his buttocks.

iNews understands that at about 05:30 hrs, the police responded to a report of suspected larceny of goats and on arrival at the Helena No. 2 Public Road, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, three men and a woman were seen in a motor vehicle with two goats.

A police report noted that the men and the woman made efforts to escape and were pursued by the police, during which one of the men allegedly attacked a rank with a pair of scissors and was shot to his buttocks.

It was noted that the Police Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting investigations into the incident and the police rank concerned is under close arrest.
